Kilford Cement

Born in Zimbabwe, Kilford found art to be his channel of expression at the early age of 6. Throughout his school career, his creativity and drawing skills were outstanding, it became his natural way of expression – he was one of under the best students in the arts sector.
His upbringing was characterized by his father, who originated from Malawi, and his mother from Zimbabwe – circumstances, which influenced his multi-cultural interest in people understanding aspects of their origin and tribes.

Due to economic depression in Zimbabwe, Kilford moved to Cape Town in 2007 to re-establish himself in Cape Town, the Mothercity’s international art scene. To earn money for art material, Kilford worked as a waiter in coffee shops. Here he began collecting un-used coffee stirring sticks to be recycled in his art, expressing his personal story and those of the many faces he’ d meet throughout the day.

Today Kilford works in his own studio in Observatory, Cape Town, attracting local and international art collectors.
